My Happy Place

Wow! Such a dream come true to stay right here in the middle of Kauai’s North Shore, my happy place. The property was immaculately clean. It was hard to tell if there was any glass in the kitchen window. (There was, but it was so clean you can’t see it!) The fridge had the basic condiments you would want to use. There’s a coffee maker and filters, toaster oven, wine openers… There was a boogie board, beach chairs, and beach towels to get you ready for your day on the beach, which is a 3 minute walk away. It’s not beach-front, but it is truly close enough. There is laundry washer and dryer. There is a dishwasher. 2 bed, 2 bath, sleeps 6 with two in the upstairs loft. The property managers were very helpful throughout the process. Check in was easy. Twenty foot ceilings! It felt so luxurious. One of the two bathrooms has a glass-door walk in with no sill, so the shower is on the same level as the floor, a beautiful detail if you like architecture. There is A/C in at least one bedroom (didn’t notice the other) as well as FOUR fans to keep you cool in the rest of the house, and a ceiling fan for the loft. Location, Location, Location! I mentioned the beach is right there, gorgeous Hanalei bay with its soft white sand and gentle surf. Hanalei town is a half mile away so you can walk there (down the beach or along the road) or it’s a quick drive, and parking was fine. To reach the farther glories of the North Shore, there is now a “North Shore Shuttle” which has a stop one half mile from the house in the opposite direction from town. You could walk easily, but there is plenty of parking. The shuttle will take you to the world renowned Kalalau Trail, Haena State Park, Ke’e Beach with its world class snorkeling, and also to the beautiful Limahuli Botanical Gardens, which is a rare treat if you like culture, history, or botany. We came for the land and the ocean, loving to hike, snorkel, swim, and lounge on the beach, so we spent very little money after air and lodging. Once you get here you are all set. There are two good grocery stores in Hanalei; one regular commercial store and one local natural foods store so it is easy to make coffee, cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and that makes everything easy and affordable also. A complete win! 09/26/2019 at 12:52 AM
